Steven’s artistic career began in 2009. Immediately after being taught portraiture and darkroom development by Greg Halvorsen Schreck, he began specializing in portraiture and staged-photography, and published two photo books. In the following years he was mentored in photography by the late Rodney Smith in New York (and has lent his recollections for Paul Martineau’s book on Rodney). He also worked as an assistant cinematographer, in 2010, on an independent film that premiered at the Brooklyn Film Festival. In 2011, Steven’s photograph was selected as a full page feature in the book Art as Spiritual Perception: Essays in Honor of E. John Walford (2012).

After MFA studies in theater, Steven moved to NYC to pursue a career in the arts. He was represented as an actor with Innovative Artists in NY & LA, and was seen for television pilots and independent films. At the same time his photography career flourished as he offered street and studio portraiture, sold fine-art photographs to private collectors, and exhibited his work in Manhattan and international online magazines. He continued working in filmmaking, too - directing music videos, commercials, writing, and serving as a story consultant to writers, including for an established screenwriter with sales to 20th Century Fox and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners. In addition, he taught theater and film as a guest artist at Vassar College and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

In early 2018, Steven launched the comedic web series Love in NY Series, which he remained a part of as a director and executive producer for over 100 episodes. Episodes from the series garnered short film festival recognition and awards in USA and Canada (Official Selection of 9 Film Festivals. Awarded: “Best family/children’s 1 Minute Movie” and “Best Romance/Romanic Comedy”, and “Honorable Mention”).

In 2020, Steven returned to Milwaukee where he continues to teach, direct, offer portraiture, and has served as a consultant for a WWII feature film in pre-production. He currently teaches theater in the Fine Arts department of Concordia University Wisconsin, and continues to work on several larger writing projects.
